Physiotherapy is a health profession dedicated to:
-
Improving and maintaining functional independence and physical performance.
-
Preventing and managing pain, physical impairments, and disabilities.
-
Promoting fitness, health and wellness.
Physiotherapy helps prevent or lessen some physical conditions resulting from injury, disease, repetitive strain, inactivity or other causes. Several different techniques can be used to restore normal motion and regain control of that motion. These techniques may include:
-
Exercise Therapy - a series of stretching, strengthening, and stabilization exercises to relieve symptoms and improve function. Necessary in the rehabilitation process for most musculoskeletal injuries, along with continued exercise program to prevent further injury.
-
Manual Therapy - involves the physiotherapist’s use of his or her hands to mobilize the joints of the spine and extremities; create movement , flexibility and normal tone of muscle.
-
Massage Therapy - is beneficial in assisting with the recovery & prevention of soft-tissue injuries such as whiplash, strains, sprains, tendonitis, carpal tunnel & postural deformities. It relaxes the body to relieve stress, manage pain, improves circulation and restores range of motion for greater flexibility.
